Project Roundup

I've been staying home and taking care of myself since Monday. I had a bit of a crash on Monday evening and decided to just let myself heal. But this morning I wanted to get back to the sewing machine. I did a small sample of what I plan on doing on the table scarf that has been sitting around for a month. And I did the two Mug Rug blocks. Not too bad considering.

It is a very simple pattern, which was the whole idea. Next stop is the table scarf itself.

I have been knitting. It is easy enough to do that while sitting in a chair just resting. The yarn is interesting, but not anything I expected. And I'm not sure how I feel about it.

The colorway is already turning a kind of green, and it will be a teal, more or less, when the ball ends. I'll add in the second ball and work from the outside of the ball in. It should be an acceptable size for a scarf. Not too big. More an inside the coat scarf than an outside the coat scarf. The yarn is extremely soft. I won't be buying any more of this. It has just too many wisps. And frogging is a misery. There are multiple errors in the knitting, but you just can't rip back to them to fix them, so I've made adjustments and just kept going. I'm pretty sure this is going to be given away.

I expect the very small (00 and 000) circular needles to arrive some time today. I've taken a break from sock knitting and I think I could go back to it now. It will be strange to have two projects on the needles at the same time. I quilt that way, but I've never knit that way.

I'm auditioning the hexagons against the black fabric. It is actually a black on black pattern. I really do not much care for solids. I think that is a generational thing. I've decided not to put another row on. I think I'm going to need to take all of the "papers" out. My plans are to applique the hexagons onto the black fabric.

I watched the lectures from QuiltCon on Craftsy. They are providing them free. It was interesting to do that. I'm going to be starting another quilt project. I want to make wonky log cabin blocks and made a modern quilt. I don't care for solid fabrics, but I do like fabrics that read solid. I've got white fabric on its way. Two different white on white patterns. My plans are to use both of them in the project, along with some yardage I recently bought and a bunch of scraps. Since it is for my bedroom the colors will be blues, purples, maybe some green and something from the opposite side of the color wheel for punch, on a white background made from several white on white fabrics, and possibly at least one lighter beige on white or beige on beige.

This would be a lot easier to do if I had a design wall, but I don't. And no place to put one either.

Take care all.

  2. Oh dear a crash, car crash? Do please take care of yourself.

I like the quilting on the mug rugs, like a star burst. Love the colors of the knitting, it does look soft.

Good luck with all you project and do take care!

  4. Oh, I'm glad to hear you felt better - at least well enought to go back to your sewing machine! Instead of using a design wall, you could also use a large bit of batting or molleton that you lay out on your bed. Your quilting fabric will stick to it and you can roll up the batting with your project and put it away until later :o)

  5. It's good to hear you are doing better. You must be so happy to be back at the sewing machine. One thing I used when I didn't have a design wall was a plastic tablecloth that has flannel backing. I would pushpin it up on a wall (over the heater control!) and lay out something. When I was done I took it back off the wall and folded it away.

Your hexagons are absolutely gorgeous. I think the black background is perfect.

  6. I hope you're feeling better. I saw some clever collapsable design walls at the quilt fair that I went to recently. They come in several sizes and when you're not using them they fit into a duffle bag. If you Google "Cheryl Ann's Design Wall" I think you can see them.

  7. Hex quilt is looking good! I don't have a design wall either, just have to make our best decision and go for it!

  8. I have been using Cheryl Ann's largest Design Wall for over a year now. I love it. In a 5th wheel RV I have no wall space. I set up the "wall" only when I am in the design stage. I plan to get one of the smaller sizes for working on my wall quilts. http://www.cherylannsdesignwall.com/ BTW, I am not connected with the site, I just enjoy the product.
    I still love your hexies.
